I've done some reasearch on this object myself but I can't figure out what it's used for! So far I know it's from 1862 judging by the letter hallmark on the bottom, it's also from Sheffield in England manufactured by James Dixon and Sons. It's sterling 925. I have a feeling I'm missing a piece to this- maybe a glass dish that goes in the top?
Need help identifying this Sheffield silver-plated dish
Enter the information about the item that you wish to have appraised here:
Purchased recently at an estate sale, but I don't know what this item is. It is visually similar to a Silent Butler, but this silver-plated item has a hollow, enclosed reservoir, indicating that it is designed to hold hot water, which would hint that it is a serving dish of some sort, perhaps for porridge.
The hallmark stamped on the underside is "Sheffield", with two 5-point stars. I cannot find any information about this hallmark.
If you know what this is, or can point me in the direction for finding out it's identity or value, please let me know!
