Although I have been able to find out much of the history behind the label art, the box itself, and its worth has been utterly a mystery to me.
Since the label bearing the owners name of Luis Curujo is on the box, that would date the box to his ownership of the Punch Cigar Company between 1874-1884. The Catuionary note on the bottom, however, ends with the words "In Such Cases" which was the wording that went into effect in 1880. Also, the owner that bought the company after Curujo used the old labels for a few years until he depleated the old stock. So I figure the box has to be between 1880-1890ish.
The box is in great shape, with one one old scratch along the top, and some serious wear to the cautionary note on the bottom. The inside label art is in good shape. The colors are bright and there are no blemishes near the art, though there is staining and wear around the outside edges.
Any information anyone can give me on what to price this thing at, I would be greatly appreciative.
