1910 Selmer Couesnon Wood Clarinet

By krobnlori, 1 January, 2008
Description

I have a wood clarinet that a friend was going to throw away.  I know nothing about clarinets and have no interest in them ... sorry!  I am looking into the worth of this before I try to sell it.  The markings on it are hard to read, but here's what info I was able to find:
- The bell says Couesnon and has a 94 Rue D Angoule...
It also has a marking in a little circle that looks like it says 10CA, which through my internet research, leads me to believe it means it is from 1910.  The bell looks to be in good condition except for a small gouge out of the outside edge near the metal part.
- One part of the "barrell"? says Bb and LP under that on the end of it and the other part has another Couesnon Paris stamp and also says Bb LP, this part has a deep scratch and what looks to be possibly a repaired split about an inch long on the end.  The other part looks very good.
- The mouthpiece has a stamp that says Henri Selmer Paris and HS star star and looks to be in great condition.
- The small barrel piece that attaches the mouthpiece has a stamp that looks like it says something like H Bettoney Boston.
- The corking has pieces missing all over and the "keys"? would probably need some work, although all look intact.  I also have a case with it, which I don't know if it is the original case, but to my untrained eye, it could be because it seems old and is not in great shape.  It is black leather? with silver color hinges and white stitching all around.  The exterior is beat up, but all intact.  The interior is a blue velvet that seems intact but has come loose from the inside.
Any info and help you can give me would be much appreciated.  All I really know about its worth is that it absolutely does not belong in the trash.

I do have pictures, but couldn't get them to post here.  Each time I clicked on the browse button, it wouldn't do anything.  I could send them in an email or something....

I know nothing about clarinets and have no interest, am looking to sell, but need to know more info and get a general idea of its worth.  I have found very little info on the internet and even wonder if possibly a music museum might be interested in this piece.
