African Fabric Art (?)

Purchase this recently, along with a set of hand-carved wooden animals labelled "Kenya". I thought it was quite unusual that the measurements listed on the frame were in centimeters, considering that in the states inches is far more common. I know nothing about this, and would simply like to know what it is if possible. 

It appears to be some kind of paint on fabric. The back side is a mirror image of the front in darker color. No kind of identification marks.
