Description

I bought this ink well off ebay (it was described as a trinket jar), Some of the Hallmarks are rubbed off just wondering if anyone knows the date - the Assay Office is also rubbed off so did have a look and maybe Sheffield 1841 but to me it looks like 1920s - it has Tortoise Shell lid (I'm not testing it with a heated pin) - It would be interesting to know a bit about it and it only cost me £14 when I bought it I did not realise it was actually silver so I think I have got a bargain to add to my collection

I’ve found some examples of the lion and the V here https://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Dates/London/Date%20Letters%20V.html I think your lion is the lion passant (guardant) mark. I found that on this site http://www.silvercollection.it/DICTIONARYDECRYPTINGUKSTERLINGMARKS.html I’m not an expert, just googled it so hopefully someone else can give you a better answer but maybe this will be a place to start.
