This statue was passed by my father. He was very proud of it and believed it to have great value. I believe it was one of his favorite collections out of many great pieces of art, even by famous artists. It is made of jade and is extremely heavy, probaly around 15KG. I would assume it to be very old or antique do to the way he spoke of it but you never know with Chinese artifacts.
I would like help trying to find out what its origen (province) and age could be based on the style of carvings and colors of jade used to sculpt it. It is obviously a male counterpart although I didn't notice any ball under the foot. Its head is also turned to the side which I have not seen on any other foo dog statues I could find online, usually they are looking straight on.
I cannot tell if its a solid piece, it doesn't look to be so however its very hard to tell. There is a waxy substance on part of it which I didn't understand.
I would like to know if this could be very old and try to find someone who is an expert to physically examine it.
