It is the inside "song playing" part of an old cylinder music box with the sharp "pins" and needles that make very beautiful music when the cylinder is turned. I think it is made of brass and weighs about 30 pounds. They were made in the late 1800's. It is missing one needle and I do not have the box part that it goes it. It still works, unsure what song it plays. If you go to http://www.mechantiques.com and click on cylinder music boxes you can view the complete ones and the inside part, which is what I have. I will soon be posting it on ebay as well.
