Antique Saber w/Enamel Scabbard

By Donato, 23 August, 2010
Description

The background is verdi green with jungle fauna depicted
The scabbard appears to be made of wood upon which has been painted a hunting scene in enamel.
On one side:
Various types of wildlife are present. These appear to be the animals that will be featured in the hunting drama on the other side of the scabbard. From left to right (beginning at the handle): a deer, two rabbits/hares; a gray fox, two deer grazing, a tiger or leopard, and a pheasant.
On the reverse side: A man dressed in noble Indian garb, wearing a classic turban and holding a rifle or spear is seen stalking a tiger. Running behind the hunter is a dog. The tiger is making a kill, which appears to be a gazzelle or some type of deer. Another deer is seen in front of the kill, looking back and fleeing. A rabbit or hare is in front of the fleeing deer.
On the handle: two deer are looking on in the distance, one partially hidden by grass. A gray fox is facing the other way.
The blade is shiny and sharp.
The tip and end of the scabbard are covered with brass and the sheath guard is likewise made of brass.
The item is overall very fine to extremely fine. The blade is shiny and sharp with a few minor scruff marks and scratches.
The enamel paint on the scabbard is in extremely fine condition with only one small area that has chipped away. The over all paint clearly depicts a hunting scene and all characters are clearly painted with no chips or degradation whatsoever.
The brass is dull but can perhaps be restored. There is a very minor dent at the very tip of the scabbard on the brass.
