Antique Side Table

I just bought this table at a yard sale for $10. My plan as of now is to refinish it and use it in my home, but I am curious about its history (when it was made, if it was hand carved, etc). The finish on the top is badly deteriorated and there is some wood visible. There is a small chunk of wood missing from the drawer (which looks to be redone with new wood on the inside), but the legs are in pretty good condition.
