Description

I knew Edie Beale in the early 90's.  She gave me a wicker chair when she moved to a smaller apartment.  At the time I only knew her as Edie Beale and only things she told me about the house in the Hamptons called Grey Gardens.  Now there is a very large cult following of the documentary, the HBO movie and The Beales of Grey Gardens.  The chair itself is shown in several pictures taken at the house before and after Jackie Kennedy paid to have her cousins's house cleaned up.  The chair is also in a scene in the documentary.  I am thinking of selling it and don't have any idea what it would be worth.  Good condition.  I have painted it black, twice.  When Edie gave me the chair she said that the green was ugly and to paint it any color I wanted.  There is one small area where the wicker is broken and it was like that when Edie gave me the chair.  One of the feet is also broken.  Other than that and some dust and cat hair, it is in great shape for a chair that was in Grey Gardens since sometime in the 40's.

One of the pictures shows where some of the black paint came off and the original green shows thru.

History Was in the home "Grey Gardens" in the Hamptons while the Beales lived there. House was made famous by it's deplorable condition and the fact that Edith Beale and her daughter, Little Edie Beale were living in squalor. A documentary was made of the house and Edith Bouvier Beale's cousin, Jackie Kennedy Onansis paid to have the property cleaned up. Later, an HBO movie was made of the house and the Beales starring Drew Barrymore. Little Edie Beale gave me the chair when I knew her in the early 90's.
