Back/Seat Upholstered Rocking Chair

By KadieB, 15 March, 2009
Description

This chair is solid wood but I am not sure of the species. There are no markings or manufacturer anywhere that I can find. It appears to have the original upholstery with no stains, tears or blemishes at all. The underside of the seat is basket woven strapping. The rocking function is a spring mechanism. Any information is much appreciated. Thank you for your help!

Re: Back/Seat Upholstered Rocking Chair

Your chair is walnut Eastlake Platform rocker. Eastlake period was 1870-1895. I don't believe it has the original upholstery, but I could be mistaken.
Your chair would be valued at $200.00 - $400.00 normally, but with the market like it is today, one can only guess. Good luck with your chair.

Re: Back/Seat Upholstered Rocking Chair

That's what it is alright, sometimes the maker's company name can be found on the spring mechanism, or at least a patent date.
