brass grave rubbings

By aapfleger, 2 June, 2010
Description

I have two of these framed brass tomb rubbings. I am told they are from 1920's and rubebd from a cathederal in England. My very preliminary searches have shown that rubbings were outlawed many years ago ue to them defacing the original crypt plates making them of significant value. I cannot locate any in the north east Floria region. I am not sure if it is lack of interest or lack of items. I have a matching set of a "knight" and a "lady". I have uploaded the picture of the lady one only. The rubbing is on one sheet of parchment, cut out VERY cleanly and placed onto a mat type sheet. There is no tape or glue and look as though they were professionally framed some time ago. The glass lookes to be an older type of glass.

Re: brass grave rubbings

Can anyone make any sort of comment on these pieces? I have been to over 5 Antique shops in the Daytona region and only witnessed head scratches. Thanks much! Anthony

Re: brass grave rubbings

Can ANYONE give me ANY idea on these? I cannot find a single soul that has any knowledge on these pieces. I have been looking for info for ovesr two years. Is there no interest (these are a dime a dozen) or are they such a rarity there is no info? Please someone comment in any manner. I have them at my home, should I look for a more secure place to keep them?

Re: brass grave rubbings

Hi- I don't know when you posted your rubbings but I just posted my rubbing the other day and have heard nothing back. I did a search on here and saw yours- mine looks just like yours but a different person. Same frame and size! Do you know any more info on yours? Please share if you do and please check out my post with the picture. Thanks!
