Description chinese vase owned by my great-grandmother that was turned into a vase. don't know anything about it's history except for that. I know things like this can range from basically worthless to pretty valuable so figured I'd try to learn more about it if I could. About 13.5 in tall and 5 in across for the vase part. Even just knowing what the signature (if that's what it is) part says would be super helpful

Based on what I can see from the images and the marking, this is late 19th to early 20th century vase that has been used as a lamp base. Lamps like this are of two types, those that use an existing vase and re-purposed for use as a lamp and those vases that were originally made for use as a lamp . I believe this one was made from an existing vase. We'd retail a comparable one as a lamp for about $350.00 as a decorator piece. There is a good chance there is another marking, a reign mark on the base of the vase under the metal base.
