Mid Evil Axe

By matthewclark35, 14 July, 2013
Description

This is a Mid Evil Axe of some sort from my grathfathers estate.  I assumer it is either made of some sorth of bronze or copper and has an unscrewable head.  The head of the double bladed axe has some sort of symmetrical design and what looks to be some hyrogrifical symbol in the middle with a speared top.  The shaft has symbols al the way down to the butt an at the bottom a viking style face can be seen.  Im assuming this is worth something since my grandfather was seen holding it at some type of award ceremony in the early 1960's He was a Hollywood film director and producer and photograher..  Not a big named one, but was in the industry.  Please help me..

Re: Mid Evil Axe

If the axe has a head that unscrews then it probably is not medieval, as most axes in that period would have been hand forged by a black Smith, one way to tell for sure is to look at the threads where it screws in, if they're really even regular spacing on the threads then its post industrial revolution, and most likely 20th century, if your grandfather was in the movie business then it stands to reason that it may be a movie prop, in which case if you can nail down what movie it was used in and by what star it may have some value... If you can't pin it down to a specific movie and actor the value is most likely just as a decor piece and would be minimal.

Re: Mid Evil Axe

I'm thinking Medieval not Mid Evil no? Kind of a different connotation. Nice piece though
