Vintage Egyptian or Moroccan (hard to differentiate which without knowing provenance, as patterns tend to be so similar) trinket box with mother-of-pearl marquetry. (So strictly it's a marquetry box, not lacquered as in Japanese/Chinese boxes.)
The Egyptian ones can be bought in a Cairo market today but many came into our countries following WWII (my father brought one back from Egypt, for example.) Very delightful item. Not so much valuable as admirable in its craftsmanship.
