First off you have to determine what the metal content is, Sterling Silver will be marked to indicate the silver content (92.5% pure silver) Silverplated examples will not have nay such markings , such as the word "Sterling" or  a numerical marking "925". Silverplated sets like your routinely sell for less than $150.00 at auction.
