Description
Two pieces which seem to be a set. Both are wooden (possibly ironwood?) and have been intricately carved displaying different scenes on either side of the piece. One piece depicts seemingly Oriental/Asian type farmers or serfs engaging in manual activities, the other piece depicts a battle scene of some sort, with a single horse man crossing a bridge engaging in a warlike act. They seem to be decorative/ornamental pieces. Have had them informally appraised in South Africa by an Antique dealer who suggested the pieces are worth between R2000 - R3500 (roughly between 185 and 340 US Dollars), but I'm looking for more knowledgeable opinions.
