Pair of Japanese Satsuma Vases

By Ntxgal, 9 July, 2013
Description

They are hand painted with an overall floral design with gold gilt and raised white enameling. Artist signed on the bottom. One vase is slightly taller than the other at 7 3/4".They were purchased by a family member stationed in Japan at the end of WWII. They were signed on the bottom.

I think they are Meiji Period, but I don't know anything about the signature.

Any information on value would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Pair of Japanese Satsuma Vases

Hello,

You are quite right in dating the vases. They are hand painted (as you say) with the "millefleurs" or thousand flower pattern. This pattern is quite common amongst pieces of Satsuma ware.

Artists signature is nothing super special and not instantly recognisable.

Value is in the ballpark of $200/$300.

Regards,

Jordan.
