Received as a gift from a deceased aunt at her passing.  Volume I has the inscription "These volumes are dedicated to the American Soldier and Sailer." signed by U. S. Grant in New York City, May 23rd, 1885.  Both volumes are titled "Personal Memoirs of U. S. Grant" and a golden seal with Grant's picture and the words "Major General Ulysses S Grant, Joint Resolution of Congress, December 17, 1863" are also on each volume.  Pictures of Grant appear in each volume,   Title page includes, "New York:  Charles L. Webster & Company 1885 "  Press of  J. J Little & Co.  Pages are yellowing, some pages loose, maps of the civil war area and fold out pages of what appear to be original hand written letters.  Both volumes have a seal on the back cover of what appears to be an angel above a small boat and the words "Mississippi River" in the seal.  Four golden stars within a gold rectangle are on the binding of each.  The volumes are bound in a deep green.
