Description Queen Anne Style Highboy Chest on Chest, top and bottom are separate pieces. 9 drawers. The four largest drawers have locks, key is missing. Drawers are dovetailed joinery, the drawer pulls appear to be original to the piece, and have the number 2377 stamped on the back of the pulls. The wood inside the drawers appears to be the same as the exterior wood and stained to match. There is no label or identifying mark on the wood, and I am not knowledgeable enough to determine if this is a handmade piece or factory made. It appears to be old, but again I do not have the knowledge to determine it’s age and the history is unknown except that it was my grandparents before I inherited it.

History This belonged to my grandparents and was given to me by my parents when they moved. Other than that my grandparents owned it I have no idea of where they obtained it from or how old it is, etc. I have looked at every inch and cannot find a maker’s mark or label. I am not knowledgeable enough about furniture to make a guess as to age or what the wood is but it is very well made and appears to be quite old. I know there are very good reproductions and that this style had a resurgence at one point. My grandparents were both from New England and my Grandfathers family was from New York State originally.

It's hard to tell from the photos but your highboy looks to be mahogany. I believe it's an early 20th century reproduction, circa 1920s. Unfortunately, there isn't much demand for these revival style furniture pieces. About $175-$200 at auction these days. Hang on to it, fashions come and go and I think it's past time for the popularity of these to make a come back. These were all the rage in the 1980s. It's only a matter of time. It's such a well made piece, and very attractive! And it belonged to your grandparents so the real value is in your heart.

This is a Colonial Revival style piece, based on genuine American Colonial furniture made during the 1700's. This style first came about during the first Centennial of the the American declaration of independence in the late 1870's, and again during the 1920's and 50's. This piece is mahogany, and a nice piece, but furniture of this type last peaked in popularity during the early 1990's. We'd retail one for about $450.00, but they often go at auction for under half that.

Thank you for your information. This is a family piece and I don’t plan on selling it. I knew that it was a well made reproduction, but I’m curious if it could have been made by my grandfather or even my great grandfather (who were very talented woodworkers) rather than purchased from a furniture store? I have a few other pieces that my grandfather made but it’s hard to tell because they are very different pieces. Its history is going to remain mysterious because there are no written records and sadly anyone who could have known anything has passed.
