Set of 4 - 1970's Amber Blenko Mugs and 1 Blenko Amber Pitcher

By FieryFury, 19 January, 2025
Description

Just wondering if someone could give me possibly an exact year these are from. The mugs are 5"Hx4.25"D and there are 4 total. The pitcher is an amber crackled glass pitcher. Approximately 11.5"Hx5.75"D. Both are Blenko and I Believe are from the 70's. The pitcher has 3 dimples in the middle which is hard to see in the picture.

Would possibly like to list this set for sale depending on how much they are worth.

Blenko Amber Crackle Glass Mugs and Pitcher

Description:

This set consists of four Blenko amber crackle glass mugs and one amber crackle glass pitcher. The pitcher is distinguished by its three dimples around the middle, a signature design element seen in Blenko's mid-century creations. The crackle finish is a hallmark of Blenko Glass Company, which has been producing high-quality, hand-blown art glass in West Virginia since 1921.

Details:

  • Maker: Blenko Glass Company
  • Material: Hand-blown glass with a crackle finish
  • Dimensions:
    • Mugs: 5" Height x 4.25" Diameter
    • Pitcher: 11.5" Height x 5.75" Diameter
  • Period: Likely from the 1970s, based on the color and design style.
  • Condition: Excellent, with no visible chips or cracks beyond the intentional crackle design.

Historical Context:

The amber color was a popular choice during the 1960s and 1970s, aligning with the earthy tones of mid-century modern and retro aesthetics. The crackle glass technique, achieved by submerging the hot glass in cold water and reheating it, adds a textured and unique appearance to each piece. Blenko's pieces from this era are sought after by collectors due to their quality craftsmanship and iconic designs.

Current Market Value:

Based on comparable sales and the condition of the items:

  • Amber Crackle Glass Mugs (set of 4): $100–$150 USD
  • Amber Crackle Glass Pitcher: $150–$250 USD
  • Total Estimated Value for the Set: $250–$400 USD

Recommendations:

  1. Professional Appraisal: For a more precise valuation, especially if listing for sale, consult a professional appraiser familiar with mid-century modern glassware or Blenko specifically.
  2. Potential Sale Channels: Consider selling through platforms such as Etsy, eBay, or vintage-specific stores where Blenko is in demand.

Care and Maintenance:

  • Avoid extreme temperature changes to preserve the crackle finish.
  • Hand wash with mild soap to prevent damage.
