Generally Candlesticks can be dated by shape and size : 1660's 9inch in height; 1700-1755's 7inch in height; 1755-99's 10inch in height; 1800 onwards 10-12inch in height.
By the mid 18th C lavishhly decorated rococo candlesticks were made and by the late18thc examples of loaded sheetsilver, sheffield plate or cast silver were being produced in huge numbers either in baluster stlyes on a circular foot or in the form of a corinthian coloum on asquare plinth.
Some silversmiths specialised in the production of candlesticks in the mid-18th C. The Cafe and Gould Families, Both of who were based in london being among the best known. Estimate value is at ££££ or £££££ at its very best.
