Stickley antique dining room set

By spartanlink, 4 January, 2016
Description

This is a Stickley dining room set with a total of four chairs and three additional leaves for the table. The three additional leaves are not shown. As pictured, the table is 60" x 48" and each additional leaf adds another 12 inches in length. Therefore, if all three of the additional leaves are installed the table will be 96" (or eight feet) in total length. I'm not sure how to describe this antique. My family purchased it from an antique store over 50 years ago. I do not know its age, but I am guessing it is pre-1900 . Structurally, the table is in very good condition. The chairs have been reupholstered and are definitely usable; however, it might be a good idea to have them checked. The chairs have been sat on perhaps a dozen times over the last ten years. The entire set has been sitting in my house for years, unused, but much admired. As far as I can determine, the table top has never been refinished, resurfaced, or re-stained. It shows evidence of minor water staining and other wear, but is not dented or badly scratched. Resurfacing would be a simple process for anyone who has done this type of thing before. This would make the table look fabulous, but I dare not attempt it for two reasons. First, I've never done this type of project before and this is a rather expensive piece to learn on--and second resurfacing might affect its value. I will leave any refinishing, etc. to the new owner.
