Telephone desk

This is a telephone table I got from a friend about 4 years ago when she was cleaning out an old storage building. It looks like an end table but has a seat that pulls out and a shelf under it, my Mom says its a telephone table, I'm just trying to find any kind information you may have on something like this, thanks.
