Two Imperial Furniture side tables

By AleshiaHowell, 16 June, 2013
Description

I recently bought two side tables from a seller on Craig's List for $10 with the intent to refinish them. However, when I was cleaning the piece, I found a tag inside each of the drawers that says:

The Crowning Touch
Imperial
Grand Rapids
Michigan
Since 1903

There is a red crown with a tealish shield emblem. The tag itself is brass.

Both tables are made from a wood I can't readily identify -- I don't know much about furniture -- and have removable glass tops. The glass tops have some chipping around the edges but are otherwise in good condition; however, I am unsure whether the glass originally came with the tables or whether the previous owners added the glass to protect the tabletops. The table legs have metal caps on them and some parts are turning slightly green/white. (Maybe they are made of copper?) The legs are square and tapered.

The first table has one large drawer and has the number 30300 printed on the bottom. The number 409 has been handwritten on the underside of the drawer. The top has some wear and tear (some distressed areas and scratches) and it is missing one of the screws that attaches the hardware on the inside of the drawer.

The second table has one small drawer with a shelf underneath. The number 30100 is printed on the bottom of the table, and the number 420 has been written on the underside of the drawer. Except for a few minor scratches, the top is in great condition. Again, the glass has some chipping. A small piece of the molding on the drawer is missing. The underside of the shelf at the bottom of the table has two staples that are holding a small corner of paper to the table -- presumably some kind of tag. The outline of where the tag once was is visible (the wood is a lighter color than the rest of the piece -- you can see the rings where the edge of the paper was). The top of the table has some (barely noticeable) scratches, and the corners and legs have some distressed areas.
