Description

There are 2 of the swords that are identical. and the handle of the sword seems to be some type of natural material like wood or cork, but i cannot be sure. They belonged to my grandfather and my family knows virtually nothing about them but I am trying to find out how old they are and where they are from. Any help at all is appreciated!:)

Origins Toledo Spain.  I believe these were called duling swords as they would be in pairs of exact size and weight, The duel had to have identical swords to be fair.

My guess with these would be circa Spanish Civil War 1936 - 1939.

The wood handles would probably be turned of one of the following types of wood common in spain. They look to be machined to me. .

  • Alder / aliso (Alnus glutinosa) ...
  • Almond Tree (Prunus dulcis) ...
  • Ash tree / Fresno (Fraxinus) ...
  • Avocado Tree / Aguacate (Persea americana) ...
  • Carob Tree / Algarrobo (Ceratonia siliqua) ...
  • Cork oak / Alcornoque (Quercus suber) ...
  • Elm / olmo (Ulmus) ...
  • Enebro (Juniperus communis)

Est Value : $125 - $200 US. for pair .. please note these values fluctuate based on demand.

These are very nice pieces. US swords and bayonets after the civil war had blood grooves. . Thanks for sharing ...

Peace and Blessings Always  ..
