vase disguised as lamp

By betsy_kevin, 10 January, 2009
Description

My wife and I were downsizing my mother-in-law's apartment and were takng apart this lamp for transport to NY and found it was indeed a vase. Looking at it closely, I saw it was very beautiful though filthy with tobacco smoke. It's possibly Japanese (we have a distant, ancient Japanese painter as a relative). Does anyone know how to proceed with cleaning and/or restoring this? If it's valuable I want to take it to a conservator, if it's not valuable I'll just take it to a lamp guy. The bottom is bashed out to accomadate the lamp parts but overall it's in good shape. Thanks for taking time with this.

regards, Kevin
