Description Belonged to my great grandmother and I'm guessing at the date based on when her children were born (late 1880s to mid 1890s. The seat panel appears to be some sort of very thin plywood. Back panel is unknown. There is no indication that the seat and back were ever caned. There are no manufacturers marks of any kind visible on the chair.

These chairs were pretty generic, first made from the 1870's with caned seats and backs, the plywood seat and backs appearing during the late 19th Century. In Ontario, Canada, they are often called " Bowmanville Rockers" after the maker's stamp found on Ontario examples*. Values for the unmarked examples are modest, at auction most sell for under $200.00 *G P Walter & Co, "Bowmanville"
