I inherited a Kutani hand painted Japanese sake set with 6 glasses when my grandmother passed away. This set has a sake bottle with a gold bird on the top, the color pattern(s) is in pastels, greens, pinks, blues, etc... The hand painted "scene" on the bottle & all 6 cups is of Mount Fugi, body(s) of water, 2 thatched roof huts,& some flora. Both the sake bottle & cups have hand painted gold trim on the top edges. On the sake bottle sits a gold bird. The sake bottle is approximately 2 1/2" w x 6" h (for height I measured from bottom to top of "spout") and is six sided (hexagon) in actual shape. The six sake cups are round in shape, wider at the top then narrowing at the bottom. Each cup has the same "scene" as the bottle. Both bottle and all 6 cups are in prestine condition, no chips, dings, broken pieces, etc...
I have tried numorous times to find out when they were made, their value and their "story" to no avail. I have found that this particular set is almost nonexistent. I have only ever found one other set like this but it wasnt complete. I am starting to think that this particular set, with the Mt. Fuji "theme" is/was either not popular or that it's very rare.
I hope someone can get back to me on these. Thank you
Excellent
