It depends on who's viewing the website, the type of item, and the quality of the images. Things like paintings or jewelery rarely get an answer, mainly because they are something that needs a physical appraisal. If you don't get an answer within a couple of days simply repost your request, it's free and easy to do.
That is the problem! Remember that the appraisals and information are being done at the courtesy of the members here. Besides what Lovejoy mentions, remember that we all have jobs and family that take up our time. We do this task out of courtesy and a willingness to share our expertise.
It is frustrating to post something and have to wait but it's simply a fact. First, someone who knows something about your item has to log on at a time that it's near the front of the queue. That's why Lovejoy suggested reposting it. I'd suggest rather that you add to the first item, so that you don't fill the queue with the same thing over and over. Just bring it to the front again.
Secondly make sure you do a couple of searches in the search box. Many times a similar item has already been evaluated and the appraisers won't keep stating the same answers over and over again. We look for new stuff!
Thirdly, make sure your description is as accurate and complete as possible. It's equally frustrating for the appraiser to have to ask for basic information. If there are markings, get a good photo of them posted, give the size, the construction etc. Don't hide where you got it, we don't need 'names' but knowing that the item originated in china or russia helps us narrow the possibilities! Also be sure to state what you are looking for. I have seen a few items posted where most everything was mentioned, including price. Interesting, but what info did you need then?
Finally, remember we have to get time to look the items up too. Then get back to you. Most of us are working on more than one at a time.
So keep updating the item so that it stays fresh and be very very very patient!
Of course sometimes (and it's hard to admit!) we simply don't know, it's not something that one of us has experience with.
Thanks for posting your message reagrding appraisals, it's question that comes up so often I begin to tire of answering it. I suppose it might be an idea to post a variation of this message every week so new users get an idea asto how this blog works.
