Religious-Reliquary?

By echristyt, 8 December, 2016
Description

I purchased this item from a local thrift store, just because it was so unique.

Researching the statuette, I believe it to be The Apostle James. Research showed his symbol was the shell, which is on his shoulder bag.

The gate on the encasement appears to be made unique like. I tried to find information about the way it was made, such as the vertical poles are going through the horizontal ones. The only thing I found about it was that type of design was made in Scotland in the 15th and 16th century and the design made its way into northern Italy in the same timeline.

Whether its worth anything or not, it is certainly a conversation piece.
