My family has owned a farm house forever and it is now sadly being sold (too much upkeep). I have inherited this beautiful old bed set and I have no space for it and no idea what to do with it. I know very little about the set other than that it came over to Maine by boat sometime in the very early 1900s and it has basically just sat in that room ever since. My extended family is Scottish but I don't know if that has any relevance. The detail in the wood carving is really lovely and although the pieces aren't in perfect condition they look pretty good for their age. The dresser has an attached mirror and the dresser and nightstand(?) both have marble tops. There are 3 pieces total. The bed is a full size, and it's a little short in length by today's standards. Parts of the headboard are made of burl wood and the rest is made of some hardwood, mahogany maybe? We call it the "captain's bed" because it was in the sea captain's room, but I don't think that has any real significance. Any ideas as to its origin and worth would be greatly appreciated!
