Painting was a gift to my Mom. It appears in good to very good shape. Looks like original frame. I searched the internet and found that Runci painted "Calender Girls: in the 50's and his wife was a Graphic Artist in Los Angeles. Her name was Maxine, so it seems that this is a portrait of his wife.
Signature on front right hand corner of canvas: "Runci"
Heads are made of papier-mache with possibly felt over the papier mache, painted on faces, not sure if body is made of papier-mache or not, cloth or felt 'skin,' jointed shoulders and hips, hand made clothes which are sewn directly onto body, felt hats, leather on some parts of dolls, real hair. I don't know much about these dolls, I'm looking for all the information I can get. I'm not even sure of their ethnicity. Very old!! I am attaching many pictures. Thank you in advance!
