Shoji Screen, Very Heavy

Category
Asian Art
Condition
Fair
Description

This Shoji screen was a gift to my husband from his boyfriend back in the 1980s, who often traveled to Asia for antiques. He's kept it in storage for the last couple decades because it was too big to use in his last house. We've been curious about getting it appraised for a while, but we live in San Francisco and art appraisers here are not cheap. We don't want to pay a couple hundred dollars to get this appraised and have him/her tell us it is worth less than their fee.

All I can really say about this screen is that it is quite heavy at ~ 80 lb. and certainly in need of some fixing up. One of the hinges comes out easily, there are some noticeable nicks in the wood from being moved around so much, and on one panel there is a large smudge from where *I think* someone attempted to repair damage to the carving (my husband swears it was this way when he received it, meaning it has been like that for at least 30 years). Its very unfortunate as the carving on this screen is gorgeous but I don't know what the smudge is made of and don't want to risk removing it because it has been there for so long.

I've included 5 photos assuming its enough to reveal the origin, artist, and possibly the value of this Shoji screen. If necessary I can take photos of every single panel (carvings are different on the front and back). I looked over the screen and couldn't find an artist signature but maybe I was looking in the wrong places. There's a lot to this screen after all.

Picture "first Easter dawn" on one side "Christ on Calvary" on the other

Category
Other
Condition
Good
Description

This was found in between the pages of a bible from the 1800's. looks like it has been cut from somewhere. One side has first Easter dawn typed at the bottom and displays a picture of two angels flying together. It's really beautiful.  The other side says Christ on Calvary and displays Christ on the crucix as wel as many other people gathered around. I am not sure if this is     Worth anything but out of curiosity I would like to know.
