Antique Ice Box - Atherton

By MJHughes, 2 August, 2017
Description

This is an antique ice cooler that was used in an old store (house had front room converted/added which was a convenience store.) I don't know too much about it and am not quite sure what other information I would need to add about it, so any prompts for additional information are appreciated!

There is a tag on it that says "Atherton - Augustus W. Ott Manufacturer ~ Worcester, Mass." - see included picture.

It appears to have all the original hinges and handles. I do believe that they may have converted this to use a compressor to keep things cold at some point - I'd have to do a closer look to see what has been altered in the interior.

It seems to be in fairly good shape and just needs a good cleaning.

I don't have exact measurements, but it stands over 5 feet tall and is just as wide.

Thanks!

History
This piece sits in a private residence that once had a front room that was a convenience store. The house was built in 1930 but I am unsure of when the store front was opened and if the ice box was new when it was installed.

Re: Antique Ice Box - Atherton

In "as found" condition larger ice chests like this sell for about $500.00, fully restored about $1500.00
