Description
Antique oval pewter container with hinged lid. The top of the lid is engraved with leaves and flowers around the border, while the side of the box itself is engraved with men and women in fine dress, borderd by columns covers in leafy vines. Some detail is gone due to age and use. The inside of the lid has some brown discoloration. The bottom has a stamp that I can't make out underneath the words "made in Germany". Overall in good working condition. I tried to research it a bit and found that it resembles a German wedding box, given to brides on their wedding day. However I wasn't able to find any metal examples, the boxes were commonly made of wood and painted.
