I believe the piece is a sugarbowl. It does not have the lid. The top of the handles arch upwards above the height of the bowl and arch softly down to almost the very bottom of the bowl. It has alot of what seems to be weathering or tarnish, as I could not initially tell it was silverplate except for looking at the bottom. Looking at the piece from the top, it seems out of round. Can't rightly tell if that is a purposeful design idea, or whether the piece sustained a blow so as to cause an indent.
The mark is FB Rogers Silver Co with a crown above the name and the year 1883 split on each side of the crown. Below the manufacturer's name is the number 1082 or 082
I have not attempted to clean the item as I don't know whether this would add ot detract from any value.
