golden dish!

By johndixon, 19 July, 2011
Description

i do not own the dish but would like to find out what it is for the 64yo owner, who was given it after relative found in pub demolishion. item was covered black .. perhaps used as fire guard , but has polished up to this shocking appearance.it is all hand beaten , and has what appears to be the signs of the zodiac on the inner ring circle , but what the outer ring signifies one can only wonder , same as to the 'child king' in the centre circle, which is in image of the sun . also, despite all sorts of depictions of human and animal form that are obvious, there appears to be mythological creatures i do not recognise.  its a wonderful , complex item i find hard to get out of my head . the owner believes it to be brass , however it is surely to smooth for this, i suspect it has been alloyed with gold! clever but crude basic method used in the metalwork . no marking - perhaps other than 2 straight lines on the blackened back. an intrigueing and i think exciting find! i think someone who is an authority in this area should see this !! i CANT sell it as i dont own, and owner is adamant she wont either, but ....???  [email protected] - 07576042618 .
