Pieces like this are actually copper with a silver wash over the copper. The layer of silver is very thin and prone to wearing off the high spots and remaining in the engraving on them. Items like this are very difficult to date because similar examples are still in production and sold in outdoor markets through out the Middle East, but most we see seldom predate World War One. While these were not mass produced in the modern sense of the term, they have been made in huge numbers, so values for them tend to be modest. at under $100.00.
