Russian miniature lacquer boxes

By rhmcdc, 8 October, 2014
Description

I have inherited a set of 14 Russian miniature lacquer boxes. The size is about 40x40mm or 1,5x1,5 inch. Some are round, some are square. They are not damaged, cracked etc. All of them are marked Mstera (one of the 4 miniature schools). They depict Russian fairytales. All of them have the name of the scene of the fairytale. Some have a name of an artist. There are no stamps or other markings (year etc). All of the lacquered boxes are in their original box (red/white carton). My grandfather is dead, but according to the family he bought or got these in the USSR during the 1980s or early 1990s. No one knows for sure. Can anyone tell me if these boxes have some value? I know there are a lot of fakes around, but I am pretty sure my grandfather got these during the USSR years, so maybe there were less fakes during that time.
