Trunk - China

Description

We bought this trunk because of the beautiful carved wood scenes on all sides. There is a large dragon on the top with bats in each corner, smaller dragons on each side and birds on the front. The seller had very little history about the piece. It is darkly stained wood with (brass?) metal accents. I have no idea if it is antique or modern, but I have been able to find very little information about it to date and haven't seen anything else like it yet. Does anyone have any information about this or similar pieces?

Thanks!

I've recently been told that this piece is from the 30s. Not sure if i believe that or not. Anyone have further input?

Hard to say, virtually identical pieces are still being produced, and the methods used in their construction has not changed that much. A lot of these I've seen are 1980's pieces.

Lovejoy
