Writing Box

By RosesRoses75, 22 October, 2009
Description

Wood writing box (or writing slope) made some time in the mid 1800's by John Joseph Mechi(1802-1880), who lived and worked in London. He was a businessman, agriculturist and city activist, made writing boxes, gentleman's dressing boxes, etc. Our box has a label inside (see picture) but no date. We're not sure of the wood, it could be rosewood or mahogany. Would appreciate any information anyone knows about these, how to date it and what it is worth.
