Description
I inherited this chair from my mother. I’ve had it for years and recently saw that it has a “made in Yugoslavia” stamp on the underside of the chair. It is in fantastic condition; some minor wear from use and is missing one nut to the bolt on the right arm. I’m looking to see if there’s any value in selling. My mother and grandmother both emigrated from Germany. If anyone has any history regarding this style of chair I’d be very interested as well. Thank you!
Details About the Windsor-Style Rocking Chair
Overview
This is a Windsor-style rocking chair stamped "Made in Yugoslavia" by "KLI Logatec," a prominent furniture manufacturer from the former Yugoslavia. Known for producing high-quality wooden furniture, KLI Logatec operated during the mid-20th century and exported extensively to international markets. The chair features traditional Windsor elements, including elegantly turned spindles, a curved backrest, and armrests, which are designed for both aesthetics and comfort.
History of KLI Logatec
KLI Logatec, located in Logatec, Slovenia (formerly part of Yugoslavia), was a significant furniture producer specializing in wooden furniture. The company was active during the 20th century, particularly between the 1950s and 1980s, exporting pieces globally. KLI was part of Yugoslavia's wood industry, which leveraged the country’s abundant forests to produce durable and stylish furniture. The factory produced various items, from household furniture to commercial products, often using beech and other hardwoods common in the region.
Following the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, many Yugoslavian furniture pieces became collectibles, reflecting both the craftsmanship and the history of the era. KLI Logatec furniture is recognized for its sturdy construction and timeless designs, making it desirable among vintage furniture enthusiasts.
