Sure can, it's an Empire style commode, the chamberpot would have been stored behind the door ;~)In the days of no indoor plumbing every bedroom would have had a variation of one of these "Thunder mug" holders. It looks like it's tiger maple, which is just a little bit rare compared to examples in less figured hardwoods.
