This bureau was purchased in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, in 1989 for $325. It was at the estate sale held at the home we were purchasing, and has traveled with us to 2 more houses over the last 34 years. One of the wheels on the bureau is off, but we still have the wheel. The marble is intact, with a slight chunk off the underside of the rear corner, hardly visible if looking at it from the top. We have always used it as a bureau to hold paperwork, photos, and the like. When I moved it last, I removed the marble top and noticed the Matthews Brothers stamp you’ll see in the pictures. I have done research on the history of the company, so I know about when and where it originated. We are now looking to sell this piece and would like to get an idea of it’s worth.
I believe it's a brass drawer pull and that's about all I know. It's in good shape except for being tarnished and has a few scratches but no cracks, dings or dents. Seems to have original screws with it.
This is a really cool photo album. It is padded cloth with a knights silhouette on the front. Inside there is several photos Victorian style. Most appear to be from the 1880's - 1890's. I believe most photos were taken in the Midwest. There are several from Iowa, Topeka ks, Lawrence Kansas and so forth. Several of them have beautiful cabinet cards on the back. Considering how old this is I think it is in really great condition... If anybody has any idea on a value possibly or even what this kind of photo album is called that would be great. Thank you
