Antique Leather Doctors Bag - Books Kansas City Trunk Company

Category
Other
Condition
Fair
Description

Looking for value and more information about the company that made this great bag.

Fabulous antique leather doctor's bag from Books Kansas City Trunk Company. This bag looks amazing in person, and leather has been moisturized. Bag is in good condition considering it is likely around 70-80 years old. Some peeling of the leather strip that runs along the top of the bag - see pic 2.

Some wear around folds of bag, clear in pictures. Some scuffing and scratches. Interior is a bit dusty but in good condition, without any rips or tears.

Wood and leather swivel office chair

Category
Furniture
Condition
Fair
Description

Wood and leather old swivel office chair.  Bought at an antique store here in Johannesburg, but the store minder could not tell me anything about the item.  I pad R550 for it, which is roughly $55. I bought it because I like it, not because it may be valuable.

But I would love to know more about it and cannot find anything similar to compare it to online.  Is it a captain chair, or a barrel chair, or something entirely else?  Which decade may it be from?  Which style is it in or inspired by?  What type of wood might it be made of?  Where may it have been produced?

Seat and arm rests are covered in soft brown leather, in fairly good condition.  The back has been unfortunately recovered in plastic (that will need to be re-done!).  Some tacks are missing but can be replaced.  Very comfy to sit on, springs and padding all seem 100%.  Height adjustment works, don’t think it can tilt any more, though.  Or perhaps I have not yet figured out how to make it tilt?

There are no visible markings to go by.

Possible Duncan Phyfe 5 piece furniture set

Category
Furniture
Condition
Excellent
Description

5 piece "possible" Duncan Phyfe leather top furniture set.

This furniture set has been passed down a few generations in my family but unfortuantely the person who knew anything or might of known anything about this set has passed.

One other note - All pieces of furniture have a different Gold pattern/design. End tables have the same pattern which match the round drum tables pattern. But coffee table and Executive desk are both different patterns each.

All furniture that has drawers are dovetailed - Confirmed in picture

Have confirmed that all pieces of furniture have no marks or actual engravings/stamps of Duncan phyfe (If that is how they marked Duncan Phyfe furniture ???) but they all have the same number markings on the bottom of the pieces - I am not sure where these are from and have no clue if they are relevant or not to the furniture or appraisal needs.

Currently have:

  • 1 Oval coffee table. No rollers and no drawers. Gold pattern/design engraved or on the leather part of the table (On top). No damage to leather or legs/feet of table.
  • 2 End tables (Matching set) with 2 drawers on each end table. Gold pattern/design engraved or on the leather part of each table (On top), also has a bezel or flower/star type pattern at top of leg on each leg of both tables. Both tables have rollers on all legs/feet. On one end table; it has a ring at the top tier of the table (Maybe from a plate or something that was sat incorrectly on it over the years, noticeable but faint)
  • 1 Round Drum table? with 1 faux drawer on one side and the other side has a long drawer. Gold pattern/design engraved or on the leather part of the table (On top). Carved pattern at the bottom of the pole where legs begin to form and fan out. All feet have rollers and are exactly like end table rollers.
  • 1 Executive style Desk. This piece of furniture is Kidney shaped. Gold pattern/design engraved or on the leather part of desk (On top). There are a total of 8 drawers in this desk.
