This antique dining set has been in my family for over 75 years. I hate to sell it but I have no where for it to go. It is a large set and my apartment cannot handle it. This set features a variety of wood including quilted maple, birdseye maple, oak and I believe possibly some walnut or other kind of wood. I don't know much about the set other than I believe it was handmade by an Indian family and sold to my great-grandparents. It was passed from my great-grandparents to my parents and from my parents to my wife and I. I have used only the table for the last few years as my small apartment cannot handle that massive set. The other pieces have been kept in climate controlled storage with proper cover from the elements.
Table:
The table measures 4' x 5' x 31" without the leaf. The leaf is in storage but I would say it measures approximately 2' wide making the table 7' long when added. It features hand lathed legs (6) which are joined into 2 sets (one on each end) forming a triangle of legs. The leaf actually folds in half to make storage easier (see photo) and to protecth the top surface of the leaf. The table and leaf have a dowl and hole joining system.
Chairs:
The chairs all have the same style of construction and design with the exception of the "king" and "queen" chairs. The "king" chair is slightly wider and features arms and the "queen" chair features a different design on the top of the chair. Pictures show the king and queen chairs. The normal chairs look like the king chair minus the arms and slighly narrower. A few of the chairs need a little repair, mostly just a good tightening of screws. One chair has a broken spindle which could easily be replaced or probably glued back together.
Buffet:
The buffet is very large at approximately 5' wide 2' deep and 45" high. It features hand lathed legs, two large drawers and two large cabinets on each side.
China Hutch:
The hutch is approximately 7' tall and 3' wide and 18" deep. It features hand lathed legs, one large drawer, two large glass doors, two movable shelves and a etched flower mirror between the doors.
Re: 10 Piece Antique Dining Set
This looks like a pretty standard mass produced Colonial Revival style suite. Suite of this type were produced all over North America from the late 1920's to mid 30's. Value wise, $1500.00 at auction these days.
