1800's Abelony and Mother of Pearl, Wardrobe Cabinet and Vanity.

By sidewinder, 26 June, 2008
Description

I have in my possession, something very unique...one of a kind and I am told by many antique experts, VERY valuable.I will tell you the story as I know it.A family here in Michigan owned it, the woman's great uncle was in the Korean War ( around the1950's ). Fell in love and married a Korean woman. ( not known at this time the maiden name ). As her wedding dowery, she was given these magnificent pieces of furniture, handed down through generations in her family. The couple had it crated and shipped to the United States after the war. The woman I obtained these from said she had inherited it and it had been in her family for about 20 years after the couple passed away. The Cabinet is MASSIVE, measuring over 8 feet wide by 77" tall and about two feet deep. I have never seen so much Mother of Pearl and abalone inlay in my LIFE as these pieces have. I have been told these were created somewhere in the 18th century. That is pretty much all I know about the pieces. The pictures really do NOT do them justice! It is spectacular!!The original mirror in the Vanity was broken years ago but I am having it replaced as we speak. This is a MATCHING set! The two pieces were verified as coming from the same artist. These would need to be in a good sized Master Bedroom and it would look incredible!

Re: 1800's Abelony & Mother of Pearl, Wardrobe Cabinet and ...

Hello,

I recently saw your listing for the 1800s abalone and mother of pearl wardrobe cabinet on instappraisal.com. I was wondering if this furniture set was still available for purchase. If so, how much is it?

Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon.

Yes, it is still available. I don't know when you posted this question...but sorry for the delay. I am asking $1200 for the set or $400 for the Vanity and $800 for the Wardrobe. Would listen to reasonable offers! I live in Grand Haven, Michigan. Where do you hail from? Would you still be interested in the pieces?

rkang,

Are you still looking for this type of furniture?  i have 4 pieces, an armoire similar to the picture above, a vanity similar to the picture above, a china cabinet, and a tall dresser.  Please respond here if interested.

Sidewinder-did you sell your pieces?  If so for how much?
