Description
I have an excellent condition table that is made out of oak or mahogany (not sure which but the wood is pretty dark).  The top of the table comes off and there is a bunch of handwritten notes on the wood inside the table.  After staring at it forever I figured out that It says "Smith & Crane, New York 1871" and "74 Wooster St".  There is other writing as well but I cannot read it. I looked on the internet and the Smith & Crane wood carvers shop was in business during that time (the building at 74 Wooster St. burned down in 1880). They specialized in church and funeral home furniture so I'm guessing that it is a credence or offertory table. It's dimensions are 31"W 17.5"D 37.25"H. The wood is stained dark and it is very ornate with Flowers carved into the base of it. The top looks like it's supposed to have some type of cloth on it which is no longer there (But the tacks to hold it in are still there). I have pictures that I can send as well if needed.
