Re: 1886 Old Judge N167 Tobacco Card of Buck Ewing
Goodwin & Company was an American tobacco manufacturer from New York City. Initially E. Goodwin and Brother, the company was founded before the American Civil War. It was known for its cigarette brands "Gypsy Queen" and "Old Judge". In 1890, the company was merged, along with four others, into James Buchanan Duke's American Tobacco Company to create an American monopoly on tobacco product manufacturing and retail.
Although it is nearly impossible to find, the earliest card appearance for Buck Ewing originates from the 1886 Old Judge - New York tobacco set. Additionally, another extremely scarce Ewing card was also produced during 1886 as part of the J. Wood Studio New York Cabinets issue. Another 1886 card of Ewing was issued in conjunction with the 1886 Kalamazoo Bats set. Subsequently, a mainstream card of Ewing was included within the 1887-90 Old Judge Tobacco series. Finally, another card depicting Ewing was also produced during the 1887 season by the Buchner Gold Coin Company.Re: 1886 Old Judge N167 Tobacco Card of Buck Ewing
